photos by the kids

New Years Day my girl wanted to take some photos.
i gave her my camera and said go ahead.
She was so excited.
She walked and decided on some photos.
these are a couple of the ones she took.
our back yard, taken through the window in the dining room.
beautiful snow.

Our cat cleaning up after breakfast.
he's not supposed to be up on the table but sometimes he gets away with it.

After my girl was done my boy wanted a turn.
He thought carefully before his photos.
his dad was reading on the couch.
trying to finish his book.
reading this page makes me want to go read it again.

He has had his bear since birth.
He got that dinosaur for Christmas.
they're his buddies, and appear to have been strategically placed for the photo shoot.

i love that my kids are growing to love photography.

a month or 2 ago my boy and i watched a national Geographic show on TVO.
He loved it.
the other day he wanted to play National Geographic.
we were on an adventure to take photos for the cover of the magazine.

spring in huntsville

i am usually at the school library on tuesdays.
not today.
so instead i drove the kids to school then took Gertie and we went for a walk.

it's Spring.
the sun is shining.
the birds are chirping.
it's a beautiful day.

oh yeah, did i mention our snow hadn't finished melting and we got more yesterday?

i walked down to the town docks and saw that beautiful view under the bridge.

those are my footprints on the dock.

i love the clock tower.

welcome home. i love having the geese back.

walking beside the water.  so beautiful.

look at all those duck footprints.
i didn't get to see any ducks this morning, but they will probably be there in the afternoon sun.

love this cross atop the Anglican church by the water.
Good Friday is only a few days away.

look at the sun shining on the water.

it is spring.
the snow doesn't make it winter again.
the warmth in the sunshine.
the geese.
even the seagulls i heard calling out.

i love spring.
all aspects of it.

winter walk

the sun was up.
the dog was raring to go.
i got on my snowpants, coat, boots and toque.
fetched Gertie.
let out the beast.
away we went.
the beast.
what a beautiful day for a walk.
sun was shining.
snow was glittering.
didn't need snowshoes because our trail was packed down enough.
this is not our trail.  i climbed up through waist deep snow to photograph this trail.

the train passing.  a glimpse through our trees.

the view from our lookout
i wanted to capture the woodpecker..or the crows.
maybe even a chickadee.

the one crow that came to say hi left before i could even get my camera to my eye.
the one woodpecker we know of didn't come out to play.
there was one little chickadee but it flew away when the beast and i neared.

relaxing up at the lookout.

oh well.
it was still a gorgeous walk.

look at that beautiful blue sky

gertie loved capturing the beauty surrounding us.
the beast is so fun to photograph in the snow.

i'm so glad i took this hour today.

and check out who was enjoying the sunshine through the window when we got home.
*yes, he's sitting on our table...when the people are away the cat will play*

Compare: Jan 2014 & Jan 2015

Hey all.
it's a new year.
i sucked at the photo a day for 365 days.
but i'm ok with that.
it's a new year.

it's January.
let's see what Jan 2014 held:

began running again.

Elsa was running rampant

the snow came in Nov 2013.
we just kept getting more.
lots and lots of snow.

***

now let's check out this new year so far.

Jan 2015
snow came Nov 2014.
most of it left by Christmas.
this is new years eve/day snow.
we bought the kids snowshoes for Christmas - perfect.

he's still loving the snow.

the first week back after Christmas break... we had 2 snow days.

I'm still running.
my husband and i got some sweet new shoes.
a little treat since our other ones have holes.

so far the januaries seem pretty similar.
looking forward to seeing the february comparison.

73/365, 80/365

Hey there.
as you all know, i'm behind on these posts.
day 73...
i didn't take the photos challenge specific, but as i looked back to see if i had any that fit the theme i saw this one (of many)
the theme is:
HARD.

it is hard to get the night sky to look exactly as i see it.
this one was the closest i could get with my lens.

day 80:
Spring?

it is still March in the photo...
a day or 2 after my little girl's birthday.
it is officially spring,

aftermath of yesterday's snowday.

yesterday we had a snow day here in Muskoka.
buses were cancelled.
roads were slippery.
people complained of winter coming back.
it felt like winter yesterday.
this morning we woke with the sun shining brightly, and glistening off the fresh snow.

haha, he blew a little too hard and it blew back in his face.
guess that's what happens when we are rushing it as the bus is pulling up.

this poor boat became frozen in the giant puddle that froze over.

all the puddles froze with a beautiful frost over them.

look at those shadows!

but don't worry.
spring is here.
even with the snowy day yesterday.

as i was walking to the house i spotted this beautiful lady.
i don't know where her nest is built or being built but she's almost ready to lay her eggs.
