day 14

day 14:
EYES.

i have a love-hate relationship with the eye.

i love how amazing eyes are.
how they look, how intricate they are.
the colors.
the emotions revealed with them.

i hate having to look into one to find something.
i get nauseous.

day 12

i have a 30 day challenge happening.
i started Oct. 1 with day 1.

rule 1. i do have to stay in order.

rule 2. i will not skip a day just to skip it.
i cannot move onto the next day's challenge without completing the one i missed.

all that to say:

Oct 12, day 12:  challenge was  SUNSET.
while the sun was setting on saturday i was inside the windowless reception hall.
at 6pm i reminded myself to check outside in an hour.
and to capture the sunset whatever it looked like.
around 8pm i remembered and, sadly, asked my husband...
"then sun has already set hasn't it?"
he answered in the affirmative.
he had just been outside in the dark as he and our little boy were taking a break from the noisy reception.

Oct 13, day 12:  challenge was SUNSET.
Thanksgiving dinner.
we were at my parents' apartment.
all day i reminded myself about the challenge.
dinner happened.
next thing i knew i looked out the window at the dark sky.
grrrrrr.

needless to say, i was a little frustrated.
(not that the sunset on sunday would have been spectacular as the sky was completely cloud covered and it was pouring.)
i had now missed 2 days.
Monday October 14th.
we drove home.

day 12:
SUNSET
my husband tidied up the living-room with the kids as i grabbed Gertie and the dog, and went for a walk.

**initially, if i missed a day i was going to make myself start over at day 1 again.
then my wonderful husband reminded me that the purpose of the challenge was to improve on my photography and to have my eyes open for photograph opportunities... to be creative.
so instead of penalizing myself i should just get back onto the challenge and continue where i left off.**

day 13

day 13:
Cannot Live Without

the necessities of life.

AIR.
haha, this photo makes me laugh.
it was a cold morning, i could see my breath..not when you're trying to take a selfie.
the AIR effect didn't work, but i still wanted to share this.

FOOD.

and of course...

WATER

this morning when i asked my boy what something was that i couldn't live without he said
"daddy."

day 11

day 11:
Something Blue

Friday was day 11.
that day we drove to Toronto for the (Canadian) thanksgiving weekend.
we had a wedding and a turkey dinner to enjoy.

on the way down i watched for something blue.
i was not finding anything, but we were also not stopping - we were on a deadline
(wedding rehearsal was happening and our little girl was in the wedding)

wait a minute..
i had been admiring something blue the whole trip.

the sky!

this one was taken for my boy.  he liked the tower, but the sky is still so beautifully bright blue.

i needed something other than the sky...
how about a random blue sign.

day 10

Day 10:
Childhood Memory

exact location is not the memory.
just the fact that it's a beach.

that is my childhood memory.

we lived by near the beach in Toronto when i was a child.
we went there quite often, no matter the season.
when my brother and i got older we met friends down there and played beach volleyball,
spending full days there.

we loved the beach.
my absolute favorite memory of the beach was learning to skip stones with my dad.

i loved taking my kids to the beach this summer.

day 9

Day 9:
Someone You Love

i have been married to him for just under 11 years.
he is my encourager, my support, my strength.
my best friend.

i was annoying him while he was playing the game with the boy.
i didn't want to tell him why i was taking the pics, he'd be embarrassed.

day 8

day 8:
Routine.

i figured the best routine to show was a bit of our week-day morning routine.

breakfast.
time for some cereal.
or oatmeal.
or bagel.
i'll be honest, it's usually cereal.

this year i have tried to make it a routine to read the Bible with them,
during breakfast,
and working on their memory verses for sunday school and Cubbies.
they are so good at remembering the verses.

waiting for the bus.
the kids play outside every morning, 5-10 minutes,
depending on how fast shoes, boots and coats have been put on.
since the boy's first bus ride to school we have been hanging his backpack on the post.
the girl's backpack now goes on a little stub sticking out of one of the cross beams.
*you can see it sticking out on the right near the bottom of the photo*

when we see the bus at the stop just before our house the kids get their backpacks on and we wait until it pulls up.

that's a few moments in our daily routine.
